Been to Miami and back

and haven't posted to my blog--Wow! Time to get back on the bandwagon. And, techinically, we just flew into Miami and then stayed 3 nights in the Keys. 20th Anniversary get-away!

Since my last blog we've been to a few places, but the most noteworthy was Maxie's Southern Comfort.

Loved it!!
Food was excellent, service was really good!! Enjoyed everything--we will be going back!!
Our friends even liked it, and were so excited that they have a vegetarian menu!!
I had the Kentucky Sidecar with Makers Mark--yum! Mark had a hurricane!! Mark & I had a crabcake and split an order of Mac n Chs with our friends for apps.
Crabcake was good, not outstanding, but good. Mac n chs was awesome--probably the best I've ever had!!
Mark had the Frogmore Stew and I had Shrimp n' Grits with Andouille Sausage and we finished up with bread pudding. Our friends took home a slice of Red Velvet Cake.
And, dare I say, the bread pudding was better than Bob Chinns in Wheeling and we make special trips for that!!

Maxies is located at
6732 W Fairview Ave
Milwaukee, WI 53213
Get in there!!

When we were in Miami and the Keys we ate at Bennys Seafood Restaurant--a restaurant we saw featured on my Favorite TV Show--and we had their famous Mofongo. Mark ordered his with shrimp and I ordered mine with roast pork.
Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish which is a combination of deep fried plaintains mashed with garlic and fried pork skin and topped with differents meats or seafood of your choosing. It is very savory, filling and delicious. Can't wait to go back!!!

We stayed in Tavernier which is a small town about 1 1/2 hrs. south of Miami on Key Largo.  We found a great local bar/restaurant called Lor-e-Lei on Islamorada (mile marker 82). I had a fabulous Coconut Crusted Crabcake Sandwich and Mark really loved their clam chowder. We also made our way down to Key West and, of course, ate at the original Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. We also had nice meals at Old Tavernier Inn and Chad's Deli. Fun times!!

Now we're back home and Mark informs me that I am impossible to live with for about 2 weeks after returning from a warm climate. I don't believe it. I mean, really, just cause I was holding on to a palm tree and he had to drag me to the airport...
